Dog Id Tags: Why Your Dog Should Have One
Most dog owners who have lost their dogs at one point in time are well aware of the importance of dog ID tags. Those whose dogs didn’t have a tag probably got to learn the hard way. Dog ID tags are small and flat tags usually attached to the dog’s collar or harness. They have identifying information such as the name of the dog, the owners name, number and address.
This information is particularly useful when the dog gets lost or wanders off. The dog ID tags enable anyone who comes across a lost dog to contact its owners and ensure its safe return home. It is very difficult and expensive to trace the owners of a dog that has no ID tag. With the advancement of technology, some of them have microchips installed. This enables the owner to identify the specific location of the dog using GPS technology.
Several humane societies around the world advocate for the use of dog ID tags on all dogs. Chances of finding the owners of a tag less dog are very slim and it’s often the dogs that suffer. This is because they will most likely end up in an animal shelter where they are put up for adoption after a while. Should they be ineligible for adoption, then they are put down which basically means they are killed. Such unfortunate cases can be avoided by simply ensuring that all dogs have an ID tag on them at all times.
Not all pet owners are fans of dog ID tags, some people are of the belief that the tags cause discomfort to the dogs. This is partly true because the tags have to be attached to either a collar or harness and if these are not correctly placed then they might injure the dog. Dog ID tags of inferior quality are also not recommended.
